What kinds of files can I send to KDP to make prints from?

A: You can send us the following file types for printing:
• PDF files (created with Adobe Acrobat).
• PRN files (created when you print to file using a standard printer driver)
• PLT files (created when you print to file using a standard plotter driver)
• TIF files (created from scanned maps)
• DXF, DWF, PostScript, some DWG (less desirable because line weights, styles and fonts can be problematic)

How do I make a PDF file? back to FAQ list

A: The following instructions explain how to create a PDF file from a MSWord document.
They can also be applied to various CAD programs. These instructions assume you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not just Acrobat Reader) . If you don't have Adobe Acrobat then use the instructions for creating a PRN or PLT file.
1. When you finish creating your document, select print from the File menu
2. When the print window appears, click on the small name which lists the printers available to your computer
3. Select Acrobat Distiller (or Adobe Acrobat). Be sure the number of copies is set to 1
4. Click the properties button on the right hand side of the print window
5. When the Acrobat Distiller properties window opens, make sure the layout and paper/quality file tabs reflect your requirements.
6. Click on the Adobe PDF file setting tab
7. Under the Adobe File Settings Tab, click the Edit Conversion button. Under the General, Compression, and Color file tabs be sure the settings reflect your requirements
8. From the Fonts file tab, select the Embed All Fonts box. (Embedding the fonts is essential to preserving the quality of your work. You may have fonts that KDP does not have.)
9. Click OK on all the open windows to apply the settings
10.When you reach the Print window, make sure one copy is selected and click OK. Acrobat Distiller will prompt you for a file name and path in the SAVE PDF File AS window
11.Enter the file name and the desired file location
12.Click the OK button. This creates your PDF file
13.View the completed file to be sure it accurately represents your original

How do I make a PRN file? back to FAQ list

A: The following instructions explain how to create a PRN file from MS Word and can also apply to many of the CAD programs on the market. Note: IF you want to produce a COLOR document you must have a color printer driver installed on your computer. Even if you don't have a specific printer or color printer in your office you can still install the driver and print to file. If you don't have the printer you can download the driver from one of the Internet sites. Many of the printer manufacturers (HP, Canon, etc) offer free downloadable drivers on their web sites. Several links are listed below:

1. When you finish creating your document, select Print from the File menu as though
you were going to send the document to a real printer. The print window will appear.
2. On the Print window, click on the small Name window, which has a list of printers available on your computer.
3. If your document contains color, select a color printer in the Name window. If it does not contain color, select any black and white printer. The number of copies listed in the Print window should be 1.
4. Select the Properties button on the right side of the Print window. Make sure the settings under the layout and Paper/quality file tabs reflect your requirements.
5. Close the Properties window
6. In the Print window, select one copy and click the Print to file in the upper right hand side under Properties. You will be prompted for the file name and location.
7. Enter the file name and location
8. Click Ok. This creates the PRN . You will not be able to view the finished file. However, if you request it KDP can create a PDF from this file for your archives.

How do I create a PLT file? back to FAQ list

A: Our printers can read most HP-GL1 and HP-GL2 print files. To get the best quality drawings using a driver for the HP-650, HP-1055, or other HP Color Plotter will produce files with a variety gray scales and line weights. These drives and others, can be installed and printed to using the same routine as for the PRN file.

I forgot to change a couple of things before I sent you may files for printing. Will you change them for me? back to FAQ list

A: No. Due to legal issues and intricacies of the programs we are not able to edit your drawings. You make the changes and tell us to substitute the new sheet for the old one.

Can you copy my old drawings? back to FAQ list

A: Yes, we can scan your old prints and drawings and can "burn" them to a CD/DVD for your use. We can even make a duplicate CD/DVD to keep in our files for future printing. It also helps to have a copy stored in two separate places in case the one you have stored is damaged.

Can you scan thick or mounted drawings? back to FAQ list

A: Yes, we can scan items that are up to 3/8" thick. This works well for mounted drawings that were permanently glued.

What sizes can KDP print? back to FAQ list

A: KDP can print any thing from 8 1/2" x 11" to any document 36" wide by 10 feet long and anything in-between. If you're not sure, just give us a call.

Can my order have more than one file? back to FAQ list

A: YES, you can sent multiple files. If you use the HTML method thru the plan room you will need to zip them into one file. If you email the files it may be faster if you zip them together, but it is not necessary. If you use the FTP site for transferring your files, there is no need to zip them. Individual files are fine.

Can I order more prints later? back to FAQ list

A: If you tell us you want us to store the file(s) for future orders we will be happy to do that. Then you can email or call us to order prints in the future. However, if you don't tell us to save them we won't store your drawings. We generally delete files within in several days after you pick up your prints.

Can I charge my prints and pay you at the end of the month? back to FAQ list

A: Yes, if you fill out a credit application and it is accepted, we'll bill you monthly. However, if you do not keep your account current we can not continue to extend you credit.

Where do I send email orders, questions, etc. back to FAQ list

A: Our email address is Orders@KonaDigitalPrints.com

What if I don't get a satisfactory answer? Who do I contact? back to FAQ list

A: You may contact our corporate offices at Info@KonaDigitalPrints.com

Do I need special software? back to FAQ list

A: No, as long as you can prepare a file using Adobe Acrobat, Print or Plot files and have access to an email account or a web browser, you can send files to KDP. You can always bring your drawings in on a disk or CD/DVD or bring in your originals to have prints made.

Is there an extra charge for email orders? For FTP orders? back to FAQ list

A: No, no extra charges for sending files to KDP electronically

Can you email my drawings to someone else for me? Can you scan the drawings and then email them? back to FAQ list

A: Yes, we can email your drawings, scanned files, etc. Just be sure to have the correct email address for the recipient. Be sure we know which files you want sent. There is a small fee for sending these files.

How do I use the FTP site to send files? back to FAQ list

A: FTP (File transfer Protocol) is a way of sending files using your web browser. Most web browser will support this methods of sending files. If yours doesn't, then you can purchase an FTP add-on program.

If your web browser supports the FTP file transfer you will first need to have a unique USER NAME and PASSWORD. If you don't have one from us, just call or email us and we will assign one to you. You will not be able to change the password, unless you request us to change it for you. For security reasons, please DO NOT SHARE your FTP access user name or password.

In your web browser type in ftp://ftp.konadigitalprints.com Under the File menu, choose the option "logon" or "log in," there will be a pop-up menu for you to enter your customized (assigned by KDP) USER NAME and PASSWORD. You will then be taken to your personal folder on our FTP server.

Using Windows Explorer or My Computer or other menu that shows you your files, you can "drag n drop" or "copy" the files you choose to the FTP folder.

Once you have completed the file transfer, you must email or call us to let us know you have transferred the file(s) and what you want done with them (ie. print, store, email, etc.). If you don't let us know, we may not know that you've sent the files.
